July Ladies' Night + Upcoming August Events!

Whew! It's been a busy month! So busy, I forgot to fill you all in on the amazing Ladies' Night we had in July {you know, for those of you who couldn't make it...} First of all, we had some amazing vendors join us. Camp Cheesecake, which is the vintage camper-turned-food truck, came out with their cheesecake by the slice, and it was heavenly. Not only did they have all the best flavors you think of when you think cheesecake, they also carry gluten-free and vegan cheesecakes. Our daughter has a dairy allergy, so for her first birthday, instead of regular cake, we had the vegan raspberry swirl cheesecake from these gals, and everyone raved about it! The cheesecake is made by Muddy Paws Cheesecake out of St. Louis Park, and it's the best in town. THEN, we partnered with the fabulous Michaela Rae Photography and Mobile Photo Booth MN. Michaela setup an open-air photo booth right in the store, and we used a set of antique church doors as the backdrop, with some vintage picture frames for props. These booths are fun for so many occasions! Michaela also took some amazing shots of the store while she was there, with her regular camera {because taking all the cool stuff into the photo booth would have been tough...you know, because there was SO MUCH cool stuff.} We had some beverages, and I put myself on stage to do a milk paint demo. We let everyone test out the milk paint on some mini-MN wooden ornaments, and then I painted a small end table, distressed and waxed it, all within the hour of the demo. Check out the pics, and then mark your calendars for August 19th {Wed, 6-8pm} and August 20-23 {10-4 each day} for our upcoming event! Remember, our Carver store is a one-weekend-per-month store. Milk Paint Colors of the Month: Luckett's Green & Dried Lavender

Every month, Miss Mustard Seed features Colors of the Month {it used to be Color, but now with the European line, there are 24 colors, so each month gets two.} While these two are the least likely to make an appearance in our home, they {like every color in the line} coordinate beautifully with the other 22 colors, and are absolutely stunning on the right pieces & in the right homes! They are both also excellent colors to mix with others, creating some brilliant custom colors. Check out the collages below for inspiration, and head on over to our online shop {or either of our stores in the Minneapolis area} to pickup some paint for your own projects! Milk Paint Giveaway: European Colors Released!

Miss Mustard Seed has released six new milk paint colors in her European milk paint line, and select retailers in the U.S. are also carrying them. Carver Junk Company will stock all six European colors. The shelf date {meaning, the date at which we're allowed to sell them to you} isn't until January 24th. But we're excited that we're able to give away a sample pack of each color before then. Pop on over to our Facebook page to enter - leave a comment telling us which of the six new colors is your favorite. We'll choose a random winner from the comments at Noon on Wednesday to receive all six colors in sample sizes! New Milk Paint Colors: MMSMP European Color Line!

New colors for the New Year! Miss Mustard Seed, aka Marian, has created a whole new line of colors for the European retailers that carry her paint. Lucky for us, she's also allowing select US retailers to carry the new colors as well, and we should have them in stock in late January, early February. She's releasing the colors one at a time via posts on her blog, so we're sharing as they are available! The most recent release is called Arabesque, and it's a "soft, dusty pink." Pink is a tough color - it certainly doesn't go in every room, or with every style, but in typical Miss Mustard Seed fashion, it's really a fantastic shade that complements the other colors in the line! While it may seem a natural fit for a baby girl's nursery, I wouldn't pigeon-hole it into girly-themed decor just yet. Here's a look at the dresser Marian created for the color launch. I'm a big fan of the before & after shot, and that gorgeous quilt! Arabesque Dresser |Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint | Dusty Soft Pink | Carver Junk Company   Introduced in October {not available in stores until Jan/Feb}, Bergere is yet another blue in the MMSMP line of colors. Clearly, she's a huge fan of blue, and who can blame her, when they look this good? It's no secret that blue is not a personal favorite for me, though I am completely in love with Artissimo, the deep navy in the MMS line. Pronounced "bear-zhair," Bergere is described as a "smokey blue/gray" that may look a bit more of one or the other, depending on the light. Four more colors are yet to be announced/released, but you know we'll share them as soon as we're able!  In the meantime, we've also created a couple of Pinterest boards inspired by each of these colors- some examples below, but you can access the full board for Arabesque here, and Bergere here.

Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint Flow Blue

Every month, Miss Mustard Seed features a Milk Paint color of the month, and every month, I make a valiant attempt to use the color on a piece of furniture for the store. August's color of the month is Flow Blue. I did it. I actually painted a table this month! It wasn't a big table, but combine a crazy busy month at the store with having a 4-week old baby at home, and it felt like a pretty big accomplishment. I didn't take a Before photo, and the process itself wasn't all that exciting - I didn't even distress the table - just painted and finished with Antiquing Wax. Voila! Sometimes simpler is better. With the great scallop detail, it didn't need a lot of help to look great. Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint | Flow Blue | End Table | Carver Junk Company | Recycle. Repurpose. Relove. Repurpose. Relove. Because I'm not all that exciting with my "how to" details this month, I thought I'd share some Pinspiration. There are tons of amazing examples of Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint in action out on Pinterest, and these are just a few of my favorite Flow Blue pieces. Check it out, folks, Pinspiration - these are not mine, and sorry, that means I cannot sell them to you at the store. But you can drool over them, come buy some paint from us, and create a masterpiece of your own! Wondering why it's called Flow Blue? This amazing antique china is called Flow Blue for the way the color bleeds outside the pattern, and inspired the name of the paint. Isn't it gorgeous? Next month's color is Shutter Grey. I can't promise that I'll personally get a piece painted in it, but we DO have a really fun contest planned with all of our dealers, that involves all of you voting. And prizes and stuff. Watch Facebook for more details!
